WW 171: The $100 "Passive" Course vs the $1000 Coaching Program - Solo Show
So many money coaches (and even coaches in general) want to grow and scale as quickly as possible while removing themselves from the equation, but it’s hard to start doing that right out of the gate AND make the money you want to make. In this episode, I’m sharing why it’s more valuable and beneficial to you to create a high ticket, high value coaching program instead of a “passive” online course. I’ll share my own personal experiences with starting out trying to monetize and more insight on the benefits behind creating your own life-changing program. Loving this episode? A Quick Recap from this episode
Today’s episode is something I definitely needed to hear in the early days of my business. This is something I hear come up a lot for money coaches, so I want to compare the $100 “passive” income course vs doing a full $1000 coaching program, when to transition between the two models, and share some of my experience with each of these.
A major mistake I made when I started trying to monetize my money coaching was immediately disregarding coaching because I thought it couldn’t be sustainable and that I wouldn’t be able to make as much money through it as I would through podcast ads, affiliate marketing, becoming an influencer, and having a built-out blog. I wanted to remove myself from the equation as quickly as possible.
This is where so many people get stuck because it’s easy to watch 6 and 7-figure business owners share how you can make tons of money using their course methods, and feeling like that’s the method you have to do. Yes, an online course can make you money and be passive (once you’ve done all the back end work to build it out) but that isn’t always the case, and it IS possible to build out a coaching program that actually does book out and remains sustainable.
We have to start by breaking up the myth that it’s easier to sell a $100 price point than it is to sell a higher touch price point. The truth is it’s going to be just as much work to sell a $100, a $1000, or even a $10000 price point, so you just have to decide what the value is that you want to offer.
I want to dive into the truth behind building a higher touch coaching program instead of the lower touch course. You need to be willing to go deep instead of wide, meaning you need to go deep into your audience and who you’re serving. Having a smaller audience doesn’t mean that you aren’t able to monetize and make a great income. If you have a small audience, it actually benefits you to choose a higher value coaching program, because if you only get 2 people to sign up, you’ve made $1000, whereas if only 2 people signed up for your course, you only make $200.
There are so many other benefits to building a 1-to-1 higher value, higher touch program. You get to know your clients on a much deeper level, so you get to know their goals, desires, fears, etc. and that’s priceless because those are all marketing points for and will help you resonate with people more. You’ll also be able to tweak your actual program to fit your ideal clients’ needs and fill the gaps that they’re looking for.
Because you’re able to access all this extra information about your clients and tweak your program, you also get to provide better results. You’re able to hold your clients accountable and push them to actually get the results they want, so then they leave testimonials and rave about how wonderful you are.
You have to stop tripping over the start line just because you’re worried something won’t be sustainable years from now.
In addition to all those other benefits, you’re also building a business in a way you can’t with an online course. With all that extra insight that you have from your clients, you’re able to really put that into your marketing and crafting your program so that people are even more likely to work with you.
This is where you need to start. You can always transition to an online course later, but starting with a high ticket coaching program gives you the deeper understandings and growth that you need to scale. If you’re thinking this isn’t sustainable then you’re making the wrong assumptions at the wrong time. I hope this helps you with why you should create a coaching program instead of a “passive” course!
